Bird and Bat Walk

Marine Gardens, Waterloo on May 11th

Officers from the RSPB led a Bird Walk around Marine Gardens to see how many different species can be spotted.

The walk starts at 7pm meeting in Marine Terrace, opposite the Royal Hotel, and anyone who attends is asked to bring along a pair of binoculars if they have them.

Common Pipistrelle BatAt 8pm the emphasis switches to nocturnal creatures with a chance to meet some real bats up close and personal. Members from Merseyside and West Lancashire Bat Group will be leading the talk and walk around the gardens and there will be a chance to listen to Bats via Bat detectors provided on the evening.

The talk and walk will finish about 9.30pm and participants are again asked to meet at the Marine Terrace opposite the Royal Hotel and bring along a torch if they have one.

Response to the event...

'Good turn out for the Bird and Bat walk last night, despite the weather being less than ideal! Walked through Marine and Crescent Garden and spotted quite a lot of birds. Followed by a very interesting talk from the 'Batman'. Did you know bats weren't blind and that vampire bats really do exist? Sadly any bats inhabiting the garden were not for coming out in the wind... but another event is planned for later in the year and hopefully the weather conditions will be better then.'
