Seafront Garden News: March 2018

Our latest newsletter letting everyone know what Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens is currently involved in.

Crescent Garden Improvement Works

Book StallSefton Council have started work to improve Crescent Garden. This is part of the long term maintenance plan agreed some years ago. Together with the Council we looked at a number of areas in the Garden and under the plan some beds will be removed, some improved and replanted. We have a detailed plan of the changes being made – please feel free to contact us if you want to know more.

Book Stall

We are hoping that better weather will come our way soon, and to that end we plan to hold our first Book Stall of the year on Saturday March 31st from 10:00am.

Future Projects

Having completed several big projects over the past few years, we are now looking for new projects for the future. If anyone has any ideas for specific improvements they would like to see, please let us know.

Regular Volunteer Activities

Big thanks to all the volunteers who have helped with gardening and litter picking since the new year. We have had a great start to the year, with 27 volunteers at litter picks, including some new volunteers, which was great.

We have also had 25 volunteers helping at gardening sessions this year – although February’s second session saw them retreating to the café out of the snow! We have noticed that, despite the snow and cold, there are signs of spring from the daffodils at Adelaide Garden.

Our next litter pick will be at Potters Barn on Saturday 10th March 10:30 – 11:30am. We will also do some extra gardening on this day. Our March volunteer gardening sessions will be on Tuesday 13th at 9:30am and Wednesday 28th at 1pm. For all gardening sessions we will meet near Waterloo Place café. Everyone is welcome at our volunteer sessions. The more people come to help, the more we achieve! If you want to join in and help, just come along on the day, or get in touch with us using the details at the top of this newsletter.

Finally, we would like to remember Anne Thompson, who sadly passed away in the New Year. Anne was a long-time supporter of our group and helped with the Annual Scarecrow Festival for many years. We will miss her and send our condolences to her husband Nick and their family.
